UnitedHealthcare has announced their Q1 2026 updates in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Plan/Portfolio Changes
- Choice Plus Direct/Choice Open Access Direct: cost savings may apply when members choose freestanding facilities for outpatient services, and/or when members choose a designated Tier 1 provider. Deductibles must be met prior to other cost sharing apply (with the exception of preventive care).
- New Smart HSA 2.0 Plans do not have copays after the deductible is met for PCP/specialist visits, urgent care, and virtual visits. Copays after the deductible do apply for higher-cost, less frequent services. These plans are a competitively-priced alternative to traditional 100% HSA plans.
Benefit Changes
- Expanded breast screening and colonoscopy screening benefits will cover most of care at no cost to the member, even if the screening is billed as a diagnostic process. Services are limited to (a) cost of the first annual diagnostic breast screening and (b) cost of the first annual diagnostic colonoscopy screening.
- Child and family behavioral coaching is now available to provide support for caregivers and children (through age 17) with behavioral health needs. The benefit includes up to 4, 45-minute virtual coaching sessions per month.
- The national virtual care provider network is expanding and now includes virtual primary care, virtual urgent care, virtual migraine treatment, virtual dermatology care, virtual sleep assistance, virtual speech therapy, virtual gastroenterology, virtual women's health and virtual cardiac rehabilitation.
Value Adds/Wellness:
- The Wellos and Calm apps continue to be available to members via myUHC.
- The Vital Medication Program will be continuing, as will Real Appeal and One Pass Select.
- UHC Rewards will be continuing. Note that UHC Rewards is not available with Surest plans.

Promotions and Bonuses
- The Packaged Savings program remains in effect, offering the opportunity to reduce dental, vision and life premiums.
- Specialty Savings Programs are available through January 1, 2026, effective dates, including Activate the Savings.
