Benefit Trends for Part-Time Employees

With flexible work arrangements on the rise, more employers are considering benefits for part-time employees. Seventy-nine percent of employers surveyed by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans offer health insurance benefits to employees who work 30 hours or fewer a week. "As the workforce shifts toward more flexible work options and away from the traditional 40-hour week, it's becoming increasingly…important to establish benefit policies for part-time workers," said Julie Stich, CEBS, Associate Vice President of Content at the International Foundation. The following are the most common healthcare-related benefits offered to part-time employees:

  • 53% Prescription drug coverage
  • 52% Dental insurance
  • 52% Vision insurance
  • 47% Flexible spending accounts
  • 33% Health savings accounts
