Virtually all employers that added infertility coverage say that it didn’t significantly increase medical plan costs, according to a study commissioned by RESOLVE with Mercer. In a previous article, we discussed how fertility benefits have grown in popularity, especially among large employers.
“This highly valued benefit is both affordable and beneficial to companies in attracting and retaining talent, being recognized as a family-friendly employer, and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts,” said Barbara Collura, RESOLVE President and CEO.
Employers give these reasons for covering infertility treatment:
- 51% to ensure that employees have access to quality care that’s cost-effective
- 51% to stay competitive in recruiting and retaining top talent
- 50% to be recognized as a family-friendly employer
Employers that added coverage in the past two years are more likely to have done so in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion with 61% saying that it was a primary objective.
Positive Results
Seventy-one percent said that by adding these benefits, they were moderately to significantly successful in ensuring access to quality, cost-effective care. In addition, 64% reported success in satisfying employee requests. Eighty-one percent of employers that cover IVF reported success in satisfying employee requests.
