The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) has temporarily paused implementation of the Certificate of Compliance with, and/or Notice of Exemption from, DFS' cybersecurity regulation. Insurance producers are encouraged to resubmit their applications for renewal and relicensing at their earliest convenience.
Producers whose licenses expired on or after January 7, 2023, will also now have until August 1, 2023, to submit their renewal applications.
The Department has heard from a number of individuals and small businesses, requesting more information and assistance regarding the cybersecurity compliance and certification process. Over the coming weeks and months, the Department will work closely with producers and trade association to educate individuals about DFS' cybersecurity requirements, including the certification and exemption process. It will also provide free resources to assist producers and businesses with compliance.
As a reminder, all DFS-regulated businesses are required to comply with applicable laws and regulations in order to do business in New York. Producers are encouraged to visit the DFS Cybersecurity Resource Center which includes information and Frequently Asked Questions about New York's cybersecurity requirements.
