Currently MediExcel permits enrollment of a single employee under select small group plans. The segment of groups enrolling fewer than five primary members has had its unique challenges.
Effective July 1, 2025, MediExcel is enhancing their requirements for New Small Groups and for the addition of employees and dependents.
These changes aim to strengthen safeguards against fraud and abuse while preserving their competitive edge in the cross-border healthcare market.
What is changing?
Beginning with effective dates of July 1, 2025, MediExcel will implement increased underwriting requirements for groups enrolling 1-4 employees.
What are the new requirements?
To support eligibility verification, they will now require the following documentation:
- Government -issued photo ID(s)
- Marriage Certificate (for enrolled spouse)
- Birth Certificate(s) for eligible dependent children
- Certificate of Registered Domestic Partnership (if applicable)
Why is MediExcel making these changes?
These updates are designed to:
- Strengthen their efforts to reduce fraud and abuse
- Improve compliance with plan eligibility guidelines
- Sustain their market-leading position in cross-border healthcare offerings
