The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is planning for the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19 to expire on May 11, 2023. Additionally, California’s COVID-19 State of Emergency ended on February 28, 2023.
As Sutter Health Plus transitions away from the public health emergency, some of the flexibilities enabled by the COVID-19 emergency declarations may be phasing out. Beginning six months after the federal PHE ends, health plans will no longer be required to cover COVID-19 diagnostic and screening testing services, immunization, and therapeutics at no cost share when delivered by an out-of-network provider.
Sutter Health Plus is currently evaluating how to best meet the ongoing needs of its members in relation to state and federal laws. We will have more information to share in the near future.
