On December 15, 2023, Florida Blue began mailing notifications to benefit administrators in relation to the Minimum Essential Coverage provision of the Affordable Care Act. These notifications, which relate to 6,726 group members and 22 Truli for Health members, will relate to employees and dependents with missing Social Security numbers.
Follow-up letters will be sent directly to members beginning on December 27, 2023.
Florida Blue is required to report to the IRS a list of all members enrolled with minimum essential coverage (MEC). This is to ensure that members get credit for having coverage, as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), via the creation of a 1095-B form.
The notification letter messaging includes:
- Members need to update their Social Security number (or ITIN in lieu) for Florida Blue's record.
- Group members can update their information by contacting their HR representative to provide the update, or by completing and returning the form that will be enclosed in the January 27 member solicitation letter.
Note that if Florida Blue requests updated information from a member and the member does not respond, the IRS could impose a $50 fine on that person. The fine is related to incorrect information on the 1095-B form, not whether a member has MEC.
Letters will not be sent to ASO groups as they are responsible for submitting their group's information to the IRS.
