In February 2024, Florida Blue announced that some of their information technology resources were affected by the Change Healthcare (CHC) cybersecurity incident. While they temporarily suspended electronic transfers of data with CHC to protect their systems from potential threats, all systems have now been validated and reconnected.
Change Healthcare experienced a breach of protected health information as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), but after a review of the data, has indicated that neither Florida Blue nor Truli for Health were impacted entities.
However, some members' information may be affected through other relationships, such as with health care providers, pharmacies, or other insurers. This means that some members may receive a letter from Change Healthcare, who has agreed to manage the notification of affected individuals. Due to the extraordinary impact and scope of the incident, at this time CHC cannot inform Florida Blue what data was compromised, nor can they advise which members may receive a notification. They have, however, provided a link to the substitute notice on their web site.
Florida Blue supports its members and groups to help them navigate through this incident. CHC is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection for two years to anyone who may have concerns about their data being impacted by this incident. Affected members are encouraged to access that resource by contacting CHC's dedicated call center at 1-866-262-5342 or visiting changecybersupport.com.
