Point32Health has made the difficult decision to withdraw Harvard Pilgrim Health Care fully insured commercial products (including small group level funded products) in Connecticut as of January 1, 2023. Point32Health will instead align its resources to continue to expand their growing Medicare Advantage business through CarePartners of Connecticut, a not-for-profit company.
To ensure a smooth transition for members and employers, Point32Health will work closely with you and your clients as Connecticut-based groups approach their 2022 renewal dates. Members will continue to have coverage until the group’s contract ends. To assist with conversations related to direct member impact, please refer to these additional details.
As a result of this decision, effective immediately, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care will cease quoting and selling commercial products for new business. They will continue to offer renewals to existing business through December 1, 2022 effective dates.
What you Need to Know
New Business
Effective immediately, new submissions will not be accepted.
Existing Business
- All groups will be formally notified of the termination 180 days prior to their renewal.
- Groups will continue to receive renewal packets through December 1, 2022 renewal dates.
- Groups may remain on their plan through their contract period. Examples:
- Group enrolled March 1, 2022 – may remain on plan until contract ends February 28, 2023.
- Group renews December 1, 2022 – may remain on plan until contract ends November 30, 2023.
Keep in Mind
The closure applies to fully-insured commercial and small group level funded products for groups located in Connecticut. Point32Health will continue selling and servicing fully insured and self-insured groups in the rest of their service areas of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, including supporting those members who live in or would like to continue to access care in Connecticut, as defined by their health plan.
